Trust-Based Relational Intervention®

(TBRI)®, created by Dr. Karyn Purvis and Dr. David Cross,  is a holistic, attachment rich, evidence-based intervention designed to meet the complex needs of people who have a history of trauma. It is based on three sets of principles. Connecting principles build felt-safety and trust. Empowering principles meet sensory needs, regulate emotions, and balance physiological responses. Correcting principles give practical tools to caregivers when addressing behavior and teach a child how to use their voice, grow their ability to negotiate their needs, and develop social-emotional competency.

Making Sense of Your Worth is an 8-week therapeutic small group, with a focus on attachment. Many adults struggle to have healthy relationships and/or struggle to attach to their children in a secure way. Making Sense of Your Worth gives participants the opportunity to process their own attachment history and work through any lies they believe about themselves. Participants emerge with a stronger, healthier, self worth, and an increased ability to maintain healthy bonded relationships. Many caregivers find TBRI® implementation much easier after participating in Making Sense of Your Worth. Specialized versions are available for the general public, teens, and domestic violence survivors. A faith based version is also available. Making Sense of Your Worth was written by Cindy R. Lee LCSW of the Halo Project.

Parenting For Positive Self-Worth

Trust-Based Relational Intervention®

Parenting For Positive Self-Worth

Parenting for Positive Self-Worth (PPSW) is TBRI® training delivered in a hands-on, small group, interactive fashion. Designed for families in crisis, but enjoyed by anyone with children. PPSW is 16 hours of training in a very practical, individualized manner. This program was written by Cindy R. Lee LCSW of the Halo Project.

In 2021 there were 391,000 children in Foster Care in the United States. 28,000 of those placements occurred in the State of Texas.

The need for support for foster families is significant. Families who are supported are able to provide the highest level of care, reducing placement disruptions, and improving mental health outcomes for children in care.

A little bit about TBRI®

Trust Based Relational Intervention is -

You cannot lead a child to a place of healing if you do not know the way yourself.

The Ministry

Welcome to RootedFC!

Where does Jesus fit in?? We are called to serve the hurting and the broken, to love people right where they are. Jesus meets each person in deep and personal ways. Rooted Families Rooted Communities exists to follow the example of Jesus in treating people with dignity, compassion, respect, and love. We pray that in meeting the emotional and relational needs of children and families, we can be an extension of Jesus’s love. The gospel is at the heart of all we do yet there is freedom of choice for everyone. We in no way expect or demand any religious commitment and we do not discriminate against any client based on their religious beliefs, race, sex, gender or orientation. Rooted FC exists to serve families, youth, and children freely.

Meet the Burdetts

Co-founders of Rooted FC, Melissa, and Brian Burdett have been married for 30 years.  Together they have 5 children: Peter age 28 (not pictured), Stephen age 26 (not pictured), Julia age 21, Alex age 11 and Abi age 10.  The Burdett’s have been foster/adopt parents for 10 years and learned about TBRI during their journey as foster parents. Melissa became a TBRI® practitioner in 2021 and has been offering TBRI® classes to foster, adoptive, and biological parents as well as Child welfare professionals in the state of Oregon. The Burdetts moved to Texas in August of 2021 to pursue further training in trauma-informed care. Melissa graduated from TCU with a Masters of Developmental Trauma in December of 2023 and since then the Burdetts have expanded their ministry to include both Oregon and the local Fort Worth/Burleson area.

We are community-funded!
